Do you think a child/teenager with an I.Q of 122 belongs in special education?

I belong to the New York State educational system. Since I enrolled, in 2nd grade, I was placed in special education. All the way till High School I knew i never belonged in that setting. I always asked to be placed in main stream education. I even took advanced Honor, Advance Placement, and College Courses (I did very well, in them as well.). It wasn't until my junior year I got "Declified". During that year, professionals conducted several tests on me (Including I.Q tests); those tests showed that I had an I.Q of 122 (Which is considered superior) and all of my skills where superior or average to my age group. If there was nothing wrong with me in the first place, why would I be placed in Special education? I know none of you can answer that question since it is a case scenario question. My real question is "Have you ever heard of a similar case before?" As well, I emigrated to America from Israel in 1996. Learning English has been a problem for me during my childhood years, but it only lasted during my first few years in this country.
