If you look at the diagram, the critical angle is 52.8 deg with respect to (wrt) the normal of the sloping side, or 90-52.8 deg or supplement(52.8 deg) wrt to that side. The ray is parallel to the bottom side, so theta is the same angle, supplement(52.8) deg.
