Do guys often say this, or does he just hate me?

He all of a sudden went in this mood whereby he didnt want to communicate (i dont know whether it was just with me or with everyone) and a week went by where i had no idea what was going on and was truly worried. We were in a long distance relationship for the next three months until college starts again so communication is important and he obviously didnt see this. I dumped him. Do guys do this often in this situation? And also when i broke it off he wouldnt give me answer if we should break up or not so i had to make the decision, all he said was im not sure im just in a weird mood.
