Hickey reaction, rude or understandable?

Today i had a very light hickey and didn't feel the need to put makeup on it, and this student teacher i dont even know came up to me and pointed to my neck and said "That's disgusting! You should hide that because its gross it's unlady like and it's trashy!" He was so angry with me and I understood what he was trying to get at but i didn't think he had to be so rude about it. Am I right to be a bit offended or was he right to say those things to me?
