What is the best training regiment to get started in jogging. I currently walk 2 miles in about 35 min.?

I try walk/running but I just don't have the stamina to jog for very long. But I would love to be able to get my workouts done faster and or make my route longer and get a better workout. I also take my dog with me and wonder if I am not getting a proper stride because of him.
