What should I do about makeup?

I'm 14 years old and a soon-to-be freshman in high school. I've never really been a fan of makeup, but I feel that now that I'm going in to high school, maybe I should try. I don't want anything extravagant, but I'd like to start small. Now, how I would I ask my mom without sounding like I'm completely obsessed with it? She is used to me being: eww! makeup!, so how would I ease this on to her? should I even where it? Am I too young? Please help!
